“You are already your best mom self. Trying to change to fit someone else’s idea of best mom takes the joy out of what you already have. It takes the joy out of everything, and then you miss everything.”
When my children were small, my mind was overrun and overtaken by thoughts of not being good enough.
I based every decision and every thought on what others would think it was I should do.
As they have gotten older, I realized I was so busy trying to prevent fires, that I missed the potential beauty from the flames.
No matter how hard I worked, no matter every good intention and protective measure: fires happen.
Because those flames are started by sparks of the minds of little humans, and these sparks need to be fanned and given oxygen; anything less is just a sad attempt at a smother.
